This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Evaluate electronic medical records to ascertain patient eligibility for the Cancer Registry Database.

• Extract demographic, clinical, pathological, therapeutic, and epidemiologic information according to established standards (ACoS/CoC, SEER, AJCC, NYS DOH).

• Accumulate all reportable malignancies and 'reportable by agreement' tumors within mandated regulatory timeframes.

• Assign the appropriate case status and analyze comprehensive patient medical records using current oncology data standards.

• Accurately input codes and text into the Metriq cancer registry software, encompassing demographics, staging, treatment, recurrence, and disease status.

• Achieve an average of 8 full case equivalents per day.

• Ensure data quality through self-review, validation metafiles, and timely correction of errors identified by QA coordinators.

• Maintain high accuracy rates as evaluated by internal QA reviews and NYS DOH error reports.

• Assist with special projects and priority cases as directed by the Registry Manager.


⛳️ Requirements

• Valid Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification or Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification.

• Over 4 years of current experience in abstracting cases within an accredited facility.

• An associate's degree or certified vocational training with 7–10 years of relevant experience is preferred; a bachelor's degree is also preferred.

• A minimum of 2 years of practical abstracting experience utilizing DxYr2018 (or current) oncology coding.

• Up-to-date hands-on experience with Metriq cancer registry software.

• Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and malignancy disease processes.

• Strong attention to detail and consistent accuracy in high-volume data abstraction.

• Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook, and internet-based research tools.

• Capability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and adhere to regulatory deadlines.
