Broadband Engineering Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +12 more states.

📋 Description

• Provide support for consulting projects involving state broadband offices, municipalities, and various public-sector clients concerning broadband initiatives, telecommunications strategies, technical assessments, and data-informed decision-making.

• Review and evaluate data and associated documentation pertaining to broadband networks, including service data, deployment project-area details, location specifics, technology descriptions, and deployment-related records.

• Analyze serviceable broadband locations (BSLs), project areas, and related datasets through the use of spreadsheets, tabular analysis, GIS tools, specialized software platforms, and supporting technical documentation to identify inconsistencies, trends, gaps, and risks associated with deployment projects.

• Assess broadband technologies and network environments such as fiber, PON-based systems, DOCSIS concepts, and both fixed and mobile wireless systems to provide technical advisory support.

• Assist in the technical review of broadband grant applications and related program materials, including scoring inputs, risk indicators, and location-level documentation utilized during the application and award processes.

• Aid in verification and challenge process activities by examining evidence submitted by ISPs, evaluating the quality of data and documentation, and documenting findings to inform public-sector decision-making.

• Create technical memoranda, issue logs, comparative analyses, summary reports, presentations, and other client-facing deliverables that effectively communicate findings to public-sector stakeholders.

• Support clients and project teams in comprehending broadband deployment assumptions, cost and scheduling considerations, serviceability challenges, technology distinctions, and the implications of these data on program decisions.

• Coordinate and assist field teams engaged in broadband validation activities, providing guidance on field procedures, documentation expectations, data collection requirements, location validation, and ensuring consistency in reporting.

• Offer daily technical support and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including project managers, analysts, GIS personnel, and field staff, to resolve issues and produce timely, accurate, and defensible client deliverables.

• Participate in both internal and client meetings; convey technical information clearly in written and oral formats for both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Occasional travel may be necessary.

• Execute other duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• 4–8 years of experience in broadband, telecommunications, network systems, GIS and mapping workflows, infrastructure analysis, technical consulting, or public-sector broadband program support.

• In-depth knowledge of broadband technologies, including fiber and fixed wireless systems, with the capability to apply that knowledge in advisory and analytical contexts.

• Familiarity with operational network environments, including PON (GPON / XGS-PON) and/or DOCSIS concepts, as well as a solid understanding of wireless network infrastructure, technologies, and spectrum utilization.

• Ability to interpret technical documentation, network-related materials, broadband availability and serviceability information, and ISP-submitted program data (including evidence used for verification and challenge processes).

• Experience with spreadsheets and structured datasets, demonstrating strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Capability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
