Bird Tour Coordinator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Organize and oversee both domestic and international birding field trips for ABC’s primary supporters, which include about three 3-4 day domestic trips annually and two week-long international trips each year, with certain trips possibly taking place outside of the Americas.

• Coordinate with ABC staff and/or skilled birding tour guides to lead these excursions, while also personally leading selected birding trips.

• Handle all logistics related to travel, accommodations, permits, and schedules for ABC-sponsored birding trips.

• Advocate for ABC’s mission by engaging with tour participants and industry professionals regarding ABC’s conservation initiatives.

• Ensure that birding experiences meet high standards of quality in alignment with ABC’s values and conservation objectives.

• Collaborate closely with Development, Communications & Marketing, and Program teams, as well as ABC partners, to guarantee the successful execution of trips and events.

• Assist in the formulation of ABC field trip policies and procedures, including trip descriptions, travel/medical insurance information/waiver, participant responsibilities, and more.

• Provide guidance on trips organized by other staff members at ABC.

• Contribute to the development of the pricing structure and strategy for birding trips.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience as a birding tour leader, possessing strong bird identification capabilities and knowledge of conservation.

• 5-7 years of experience in organizing and leading birding excursions, including international trips, and managing all logistics from accommodations to meals to transportation.

• Familiarity with birding locations listed at http://www.conservationbirding.org is advantageous, along with knowledge of global birding hotspots and tour destinations.

• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, including excellent customer service skills and the capacity to engage and educate ABC’s key supporters about conservation efforts.

• Commitment to maintaining high standards for outstanding birding tours.

• Adaptability and the ability to adjust plans as needed; comfort with uncertainty, particularly when launching new trips.

• Knowledge of ABC’s mission and conservation activities is beneficial.

• Capability to work independently, manage various projects, and effectively coordinate and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders.

• Occasional air and car travel may be necessary for this role; willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

• Must possess and maintain a valid current passport.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or other relevant organizational tools is required.

• Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is a plus.
