Biology Research Data Review Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Assess protein target assignments within extensive bioactivity database workflows.

• Cross-reference assigned UniProt IDs with primary scientific resources, including research papers and patents.

• Verify whether target assignments accurately represent the proteins under investigation.

• Suggest revised UniProt accessions for assignments that need correction.

• Analyze and interpret primary literature relating to binding assays, functional assays, biochemical profiling, target validation, and drug discovery processes.

• Evaluate the context concerning targets, assays, and compounds using scientific expertise and domain knowledge.

• Review bioactivity records from sources like ChEMBL, BindingDB, PubChem, and other relevant databases.

• Detect inconsistencies, ambiguous mappings, and gaps in evidence regarding protein target assignments.

• Identify and categorize target assignment errors using a structured taxonomy.

• Compose succinct, evidence-based notes that clarify review conclusions and scientific rationale.

• Implement standardized annotation practices across database entries and accompanying source materials.

• Ensure precision, clarity, and professional judgment in all submitted review work.

⛳️ Requirements

• BA/BS with 5+ years, MS with 2+ years, or PhD-level experience in biology, pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical biology, drug discovery, or a related discipline.

• Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, CRO, academic research, or applied life-science research settings.

• Practical experience with binding or functional assays, including SPR, TR-FRET, radioligand binding, kinase assays, GPCR functional assays, IC50, Ki, or KD analysis.

• Current or recent bench-active experience in roles such as research scientist, associate scientist, or a similar scientific position.

• Proficient in UniProt or related workflows like SAR support, HTS, target validation, biochemical profiling, or IND-enabling studies.

• Strong capability to comprehend scientific literature and make careful, evidence-driven judgments.

• Ability to operate independently in a remote, project-driven environment.

• Hands-on experience in biotech, pharma, CRO, drug discovery, assay development, target validation, or biochemical profiling.

• Equivalent applied research experience related to protein targets, bioactivity data, assay interpretation, or scientific annotation may be accepted.

• Direct experience with databases such as ChEMBL, BindingDB, PubChem, UniProt, or similar scientific repositories.

• Experience in selectivity profiling, counterscreening, biochemical assays, or functional assays.

• Familiarity with distinctions between agonists/antagonists and activators/inhibitors.

• Experience in supporting SAR workflows, HTS initiatives, target validation, biochemical profiling, or IND-enabling studies.

• Willingness to commit approximately 10–20 hours per week based on project scope and availability.

• Eligible candidates must reside in the United States based on project requirements.
