This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +4 more states.
• Assess the design and engineering of battery energy storage systems (BESS), ensuring adherence to contracts, utility requirements, and local authority standards with minimal oversight.
• Act as a technical expert across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and high voltage engineering aspects of assigned projects.
• Supervise Engineers of Record and external engineering partners to guarantee clarity in scope and timely project delivery.
• Collaborate with fire protection engineers and local fire authorities/AHJ’s.
• Create and evaluate technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for BESS components to facilitate procurement processes.
• Offer technical guidance during procurement by making vendor recommendations and reviewing drawings.
• Work together with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems.
• Direct system modeling, simulation, and analysis to enhance performance, efficiency, and reliability.
• Provide engineering assistance during construction, addressing field issues, offering design clarifications, and implementing minor redesigns.
• Offer engineering support for testing, validation, commissioning, energization, and initial synchronization.
• Remain informed about industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist in business development through proposals, presentations, and technical consultations.
• Represent SOLV Engineering in meetings with customers and clients.
• Engage in regular team meetings and calls.
• Travel as necessary to support project execution.
• Complete additional tasks as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Over 2 years of electrical engineering experience focusing on BESS, renewable energy, or power systems.
• Proficient knowledge of the design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems, including lithium-ion batteries, inverters, BMS (Battery Management Systems), and grid interconnection equipment.
• Familiarity with BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.
• Experience with power system analysis tools (PSS/E, PSCAD, etc.) and simulation software.
• Solid understanding of relevant codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, utility standards).
• Awareness of fire protection regulations (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855).
• Understanding of communication protocols utilized in SCADA and Energy Management Systems (IEC 61850).
• Project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
• Comprehensive understanding of EPC engineering workflows, covering design deliverables, submittals, document control, and coordination with engineering partners.
• Experience in supporting solar, BESS, power, or civil/site projects, with exposure to both pre-construction and execution phases.
