This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Oversee employee benefit programs, including determining eligibility, enrolling new hires in benefits, processing qualifying life status changes, updating beneficiaries, and managing disability, accident, and death claims.
• Address general employee questions regarding eligibility, coverage, and other benefit-related issues.
• Execute daily routine benefit processing tasks for enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, and claims related to disability, accidents, and death.
• Assist in managing protected and personal leaves of absence, which includes leave determinations, recordkeeping, compliance, and effective communication with employees, supervisors, and care providers as necessary.
• Act as the primary contact for program vendors and third-party administrators (TPAs).
• Handle inquiries from external legal entities (such as social services, child support orders, court orders, etc.) in compliance with company policy.
• Ensure adherence to all relevant federal and state laws, including but not limited to HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, ADA, PPACA, FMLA, and various state leave laws.
• Manage benefit premium billing and payment reconciliation for carriers; submit check requests and supporting documentation to Accounting for processing.
• Collaborate with all of Carrington’s benefit carriers to administer plans and maintain data integrity.
• Work with the benefits team and Carrington’s broker to facilitate the annual Open Enrollment process, including communications, presentations, and relevant worksite wellness initiatives.
• Partner with Payroll to address and resolve any missed benefit premium deductions.
• Collaborate with corporate communications to keep benefit-related documents and communications updated on Carrington’s intranet site.
• Support audits and required state and federal filings, including the annual 1094-C and 1095-C forms.
• Maintain employee benefit records and files.
• Perform additional duties as required.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in benefits administration, including leave administration.
• Solid understanding of HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, ADA, PPACA, FMLA, state leave laws, and DOL regulations.
