This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead and guide a team of backend engineers, ensuring execution and technical excellence.
• Oversee hiring processes, performance evaluations, career growth, coaching, and conduct regular one-on-one meetings.
• Establish engineering standards and steer architectural direction in collaboration with the Backend Tech Lead.
• Take ownership of the backend roadmap and delivery in partnership with Product and Engineering Leadership.
• Design, develop, and sustain scalable, highly concurrent backend services using Go.
• Architect distributed systems that ensure high throughput, reliability, and real-time operations.
• Define service boundaries, APIs, and data models effectively.
• Enhance systems for performance, scalability, resilience, uptime, and operational reliability.
• Identify and address bottlenecks in distributed systems and workloads that are heavy on concurrency.
• Collaborate with Frontend, Platform, Autonomy, and Embedded teams.
• Support comprehensive system design from edge devices to cloud infrastructure.
• Contribute to system-level architecture across the entire technology stack.
• Implement secure development practices.
• Uphold standards for code quality, testing, and documentation.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in backend or distributed systems engineering.
• Strong proficiency in Go and the development of highly concurrent systems.
• Demonstrated experience in people management, including managing, developing, and evaluating engineers directly.
• Experience in designing and operating distributed systems at scale.
• Strong skills in API design and system architecture.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerized environments.
• In-depth understanding of performance optimization, data structures, and system design.
• Proven ability to drive projects from concept to production.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Eligible to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance, if necessary.
• Nice to have: experience in IoT, robotics, or distributed hardware systems.
• Nice to have: solid networking fundamentals and debugging experience.
• Nice to have: experience with AWS or other cloud-based infrastructure.
• Nice to have: familiarity with embedded systems or hardware integration.
