Backend Engineer – Workflows

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of designing and advancing core backend services that facilitate workflow execution, scheduling, and orchestration across various cloud data warehouses.

• Convert visual DAGs into optimized, warehouse-native SQL and procedural code, ensuring computations are performed close to the data.

• Develop and manage integrations with BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, Azure Oracle, Postgres, and Synapse — covering connection management, query execution, error handling, and cost/performance enhancements.

• Expand the component catalog with new analytical building blocks and create the SDK that enables customers and partners to contribute their own elements.

• Enhance the reliability and observability of long-running, scheduled, and event-triggered jobs: including retries, idempotency, lineage, logging, and metrics.

• Work closely with Product, Frontend, Data Engineering, and QA teams to deliver features from start to finish, encompassing API design to user experience behavior.

• Integrate AI tools effectively throughout your development workflow — not as a mere checkbox, but as a true productivity enhancer in your design, building, and testing processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of backend engineering experience delivering production systems at scale.

• Extensive database knowledge with at least one of our primary data warehouses: BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, or Oracle. You can analyze an execution plan, identify problematic joins, and understand partitioning, clustering, and costs before the query is deployed to production.

• Proficient in TypeScript and Node.js within a production backend environment.

• Preferred: frontend fluency. You can seamlessly navigate a React/TypeScript codebase to manage a feature from start to finish, resolve API contract issues independently, or quickly prototype UI for new components.

• Comfortable in a serverless and cloud-native setting, with practical experience in GCP or AWS.

• Hands-on experience with AI technologies. You have successfully launched features powered by LLMs, embeddings, agents, or AI-assisted tools in a production environment — not just conducted side experiments.

• Strong convictions regarding software quality. You write tests not because it's mandated, but from understanding the consequences of neglecting them. You document essential information and keep it updated.

• A collaborative, low-ego approach to engineering. You provide constructive feedback during code reviews, ask insightful questions when uncertain, and strive to improve those around you.
