Backend Engineer – PHP, Symfony, AI-Native Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Create and deploy scalable backend services using PHP/Symfony.

• Build dependable APIs, workers, batch jobs, integrations, and internal tools.

• Improve system performance, latency, throughput, and resource utilization.

• Make strategic architectural choices regarding data flow, background processing, queues, caching, and service boundaries.

• Write clean, maintainable, and thoroughly tested code.

• Troubleshoot complex production issues spanning application code, databases, queues, logs, and external services.

• Utilize AI tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or similar to accelerate development, testing, debugging, and refactoring processes.

• Meticulously evaluate AI-generated code for accuracy, performance, security, and maintainability.

• Work collaboratively with QA and other engineers to ensure the delivery of reliable systems.

• Additional responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience working with PHP.

• Proficiency in Symfony framework.

• Strong expertise in database management.

• Familiarity with CI/CD practices (GitHub, GitHub Actions, managing multiple environments, Git).

• Solid understanding of software architecture and system design principles.

• Proven experience in developing low-latency, efficient backend systems.

• Strong knowledge of databases, query optimization, caching mechanisms, queues, and background processing.

• Experience in API design and third-party integrations.

• Excellent debugging and performance profiling capabilities.

• Background in automated testing methodologies.

• Proficient in leveraging AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or similar.

• Display a high sense of ownership, sound judgment, and the ability to work autonomously.
