Automation Technical Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Act as the subject matter expert for the implementation of automation hardware solutions in large core clinical laboratories.

• Oversee onsite implementation activities, which include equipment receipt, site readiness evaluation, equipment placement, assembly, testing, and operational verification.

• Coordinate implementation projects with customers, project managers, laboratory leadership, local field service teams, contractors, vendors, and other cross-functional stakeholders.

• Address complex technical inquiries and offer advanced troubleshooting support throughout the implementation lifecycle.

• Utilize established procedures to develop practical solutions for technical challenges and meet customer requirements.

• Provide automation product training and technical guidance to field service personnel during and after the implementation phase.

• Assist with post-implementation escalations and serve as a subject matter expert for intricate automation system issues.

• Support new automation hardware product launches and instrument additions at existing customer facilities.

• Formulate and apply consulting strategies that enhance customer partnerships and ensure long-term success of automation solutions.

• Uphold compliance with quality system requirements and encourage adherence to Abbott’s Code of Business Conduct.

• Travel across the United States to support customer implementation projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• An associate degree in Engineering, Electronics, Automation Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Technical Systems, or a related technical field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in supporting, servicing, troubleshooting, implementing, or maintaining automation systems, laboratory instrumentation, diagnostic equipment, or other complex technical systems.

• Experience in resolving technical issues in customer-facing environments.

• Capacity to independently manage complex technical projects and specialized assignments.

• Willingness to travel up to 100% and maintain easy access to a major airport.

• Preferred: A bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline.

• Preferred: Experience in clinical laboratories, diagnostics, healthcare, or laboratory automation environments.

• Preferred: Knowledge of regulations and standards related to in vitro diagnostics (IVD) and biologics.

• Preferred: Experience in providing technical training, coaching, or mentorship to field service personnel.

• Preferred: Experience in leading implementation projects that involve multiple stakeholders.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Abbott Diagnostics automation and instrument platforms.

• Preferred: Strong experience in project coordination, consulting, and customer relationship management.

• Preferred: Understanding of laboratory workflow and operations.
