Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and implement new automation components and scripts.

• Perform proactive administration and maintenance of managed systems while adhering to change control protocols.

• Oversee the entire lifecycle of all automation components.

• Lead research and prototyping initiatives for innovative automation concepts.

• Create and maintain thorough documentation for system lifecycles.

• Analyze requirements and produce detailed reports for assigned projects and tasks.

• Ensure effective communication, manage assigned tasks efficiently, and commit to ongoing learning.

• Provide training on automation technologies and assist with additional assigned responsibilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A relevant tertiary qualification is advantageous (e.g., Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, etc.).

• Over 3 years of experience in maintaining and troubleshooting Linux distributions and MS Windows Server (2012+).

• Proficiency in platforms such as Ansible or Aria Automation (VRO), Chef, Puppet, and Terraform.

• Expert-level skills in languages including PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, and/or Bash.

• Familiarity with VMWare PowerCLI and a strong understanding of core concepts (Clusters, DRS, Distributed Switches, vMotion).

• Working knowledge of Active Directory (GPOs, permissions), DHCP, and DNS.

• Familiarity with systems like NFS, iSCSI, Fiber Channel, and SMB.

• Strong comprehension of mid to enterprise-scale data center architectures.

• Proven ability to utilize complex problem-solving techniques.

• Reasonable understanding of Azure, AWS, Containers, and the basics of Kubernetes.

• Moderate experience with common platforms (e.g., Service Now).

• Advanced knowledge in Aria/VRO automation, deep understanding of Cloud/Container technologies, and advanced Operating/Storage Systems (Windows/Linux, NetApp/Pure) would be a plus.
