This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Missouri.
• Provides timely and precise guidance to court personnel regarding active cases and other court-related matters.
• Conducts legal research and evaluates case records and filings.
• Acts on specific motions within the authorized scope of the Clerk’s Office.
• Evaluates appeals for jurisdictional and procedural concerns and oral argument.
• Engages in special projects related to the operations of the Clerk’s Office.
• Supplies information to litigants and attorneys.
• Functions as a legal resource for staff within the Clerk’s Office.
• Acts on specific motions within the authorized scope of the Clerk’s Office; refers other motions to appropriate Clerk’s office staff, the Staff Attorneys’ office, or chambers as necessary.
• Offers procedural information to pro se litigants or counsel by addressing telephone inquiries and responding to written correspondence.
• A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law institution.
• Admission to practice before the highest court in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or federal court of general jurisdiction in the United States.
• A minimum of 2 years of legal experience post-law school. Experience as a law clerk will be considered relevant.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal and analytical abilities, along with proficiency in technology usage.
• Capability to analyze complex legal issues and propose solutions.
• Competence to work efficiently and accurately while prioritizing among competing demands.
• Familiarity with and adherence to the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees and court confidentiality standards.
• Ability to demonstrate sound ethics and judgment.
• Comprehensive understanding of the appellate process and the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure (Preferred).
• Prior experience as a federal law clerk or staff attorney, or as an attorney for a state appellate court (Preferred).
• Vacation time accrues at a rate of 13 days per year for the first 3 years, increasing to 20 days after 3 years and 26 days after 15 years.
• Sick time accrues at a rate of 13 days per year.
