Associate Underwriter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist in the assessment and pricing of health insurance plans for small to medium-sized employer groups.

• Collaborate closely with seasoned underwriters, sales teams, and account management.

• Guarantee competitive, precise, and compliant quotes for level-funded products.

• Acquire knowledge of underwriting tools, guidelines, and rating methodologies.

• Oversee a caseload to meet performance metrics related to turnaround time, productivity, accuracy, pricing integrity, and block profitability.

• Utilize Gravie’s proprietary underwriting engine to generate rating output.

• Prepare initial rate quotes and renewals under guidance.

• Refer complex cases to senior underwriters and/or management.

• Articulate pricing and product offerings to Sales and Account Management.

• Work in conjunction with internal and external teams (sales, actuarial, brokers, etc.)

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Insurance, or a related field.

• 0–2 years of underwriting experience, ideally in health insurance or employee benefits.

• Familiarity with level-funded or self-funded insurance products.

• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

• Proficient written and verbal communication skills.

• A strong desire to learn and develop in a dynamic environment.

• Basic math skills and understanding are essential.

• Internship or experience in insurance, healthcare analytics, or benefits consulting (additional advantage).

• Familiarity with group health underwriting or level-funded/self-funded plans (additional advantage).

• Coursework or certification in insurance or risk management (additional advantage).
