This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Execute electrical engineering designs for low voltage (LV), high voltage (HV), and extra high voltage (EHV) power systems, with a focus on transmission and distribution substations.
• Work in collaboration with engineers and drafters to produce detailed electrical and physical designs for substations.
• Offer engineering design and construction support for designated projects.
• Manage project workflow and address issues across engineering disciplines and project management.
• Assist project management, procurement, and construction activities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Create single-line switching and protection diagrams, three-line diagrams, and direct current (DC) schematics.
• Develop equipment specifications and facilitate equipment procurement, vendor coordination, and equipment evaluations.
• Generate bills of material, cable and conduit schedules, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
• Conduct calculations and reports for AC/DC systems, battery sizing, overvoltage protection, coordination, conduit fill, grounding, and lightning protection.
• Review physical drawings and calculations for substations, including arrangements, clearances, conduits, grounding, and lightning protection.
• Design underground medium- and high-voltage cabling systems.
• Collaborate on designs with clients, vendors, and subcontractors, and participate in meetings.
• Maintain engineering documentation and records.
• Coordinate with procurement and quality control teams.
• Mentor designers and drafters, reviewing and approving electrical drawings.
• Engage in the development of junior engineers and designers.
• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Power Engineering.
• Completed educational courses in power systems analysis and electrical machinery.
• Familiarity with NEC, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE, and other relevant codes and standards.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in designing transmission-level substations ranging from 13.8 kV to 500 kV.
• Proficiency in transmission line protection, substation protection and control systems, and protection schemes for generators, transformers, and buses.
• Experience in developing single-line, protection, control, and SCADA diagrams for substations, including compliance with utility and ISO interconnection and operational requirements.
• Knowledge in equipment specifications, designs, and layouts, covering major equipment and associated protection, control, SCADA, and low-voltage auxiliary systems.
• Background with capacitor banks and distribution feeder protection.
• Proven experience at all interfaces of transmission-level projects.
• Familiarity with SEL, GE, and similar relay systems.
• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, NESC, OSHA, NERC, RUS, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, as well as local and federal building codes.
• Understanding of substation physical drawings and calculations.
• Engineer in Training certification is preferred, but not mandatory.
• Capacity to perform tasks under appropriate supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
• Proficient in engineering theories and principles, researching design issues, evaluating alternatives, making recommendations, presenting solutions, and resolving urgent problems.
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD 2015 or newer, and Microsoft Outlook.
• Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
• Capability to lift or move equipment weighing up to 15 lbs.
