
Associate Director, Clinical Operations – Study Startup

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Responsible for collaborating with the Clinical Operations team to provide high-quality, client-focused, and profitable clinical startup services.
• Proactively manages projects during the startup phase and serves as a subject matter expert in client interactions.
• Develop and sustain strong relationships with clients.
• Engage in hiring, training, resource allocation/utilization, performance management, audits, systems, and more.
• Lead and supervise clinical study startup teams and project startup activities.
• Collaborate with Clinical Operations Leads, Project Managers, sponsors, and cross-functional teams.
• Actively enhance study startup performance across site identification, feasibility, site selection, ethics/regulatory submissions, site activation, and contract and budget negotiations.
• Ensure the quality and completeness of startup deliverables.
• Monitor project startup timelines, KPIs, cycle times, and quality metrics.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and line management for Clinical Trial Assistants and Site Contracts/Budgets teams.
• Conduct business analysis and benchmarking within startup services.
• Propel continuous improvement initiatives throughout startup operations.
• Author governing documents such as SOPs, checklists, and templates.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in science, health studies, research fields, or a related discipline.
• 14 years of clinical research experience.
• Background in business and operational management.
• Extensive experience in business operations within a clinical research environment.
• Strong industry reputation with a broad network of client contacts.
• Proven track record of leading an organization to optimal performance.
• Exceptional people management skills with the ability to effectively interact and communicate with personnel at all organizational levels and with client contacts.
• Outstanding written communication and presentation abilities.
• Travel requirements: this position may necessitate 20% to 50% business travel.
