Archaeology Field Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Performing archaeological pedestrian surveys

• Gathering archaeological data including GPS, photographs, site forms, site sketches, and artifact sketches

• Conducting subsurface testing or identifying artifacts

• Measuring and thoroughly documenting artifacts

• Creating comprehensive field notes

• Collaborating as part of a team or working independently as required by the job

• Additional duties as assigned

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline

• Minimum of 6 months of archaeological field experience or completion of a field school

• Proven experience in archaeological survey and excavation

• Capability to work in diverse and often challenging terrains, involving hikes of up to 5 to 10 miles per day to and from project sites

• Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities

• Strong teamwork skills and a proactive approach within a project team

• High attention to detail and proficient note-taking abilities

• Possession of a valid driver's license

• Preferably skilled in operating GPS units, navigating using USGS maps/aerial photography, and using a compass

• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions

• Must understand and adhere to company safety protocols

• Access to a laptop or computer for completing timesheets, expense reports, and other office-related tasks

• As a federal contractor governed by Executive Order 14042, Sundance mandates that all employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment, with accommodations for legitimate medical and religious exemptions

• Capability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally

• This position requires successful completion of fit for work testing, including Drug & Alcohol testing

🏝️ Benefits

• Per Diem is typically based on a GSA rate and varies according to the fieldwork location, usually not less than $50 per day

• Hotel or lodging expenses are covered by Sundance and are separate from per diem

• Opportunities for post-field office work may be available, subject to the discretion of the Project Field Director and Principal Investigator
