Analytics Engineer

📋 Description

• Develop Gold layer dbt models, which encompass metric-level aggregations, KPI tables, and denormalized summary tables tailored for BI utilization in Sigma.

• Create dbt Semantic Layer metric definitions utilizing MetricFlow, including metrics such as sell-through, out-of-stock (OOS) rate, conversion rate, average order value (AOV), weeks cover, and other metrics outlined in the business metric register.

• Populate and sustain the business glossary for each completed dataset, detailing metric definitions, calculation notes, known caveats, ownership, and data lineage.

• Engage in business validation sessions with the onshore team and business stakeholders to confirm that Gold metrics are consistent with the approved metric register definitions before handover to Run operations.

• Write and update dbt Explorer documentation, which includes model descriptions, column descriptions, and metric definitions to guarantee that the semantic layer is fully self-documenting.

• Assist ongoing Run operations by overseeing metric change requests, implementing new Gold model additions, monitoring Cortex ML models, updating Claude NLQ context, and tracking AI agent uptime and performance.

• Work collaboratively with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to validate business requirements, clarify KPI logic, and ensure uniform metric governance across the platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience with dbt Semantic Layer and MetricFlow, covering metric definitions, dimensions, entities, measures, and time spines.

• Proficient in SQL, including capabilities in metric calculation logic, window functions, ratio metrics, and period-over-period comparisons.

• Basic Python scripting skills aimed at automation and monitoring tasks.

• Intermediate proficiency in Power BI or similar self-service BI platforms, capable of validating Gold layer outputs within BI environments.

• Intermediate experience with Atlan or comparable data cataloguing platforms, encompassing catalogue administration, glossary development, and lineage assessment.

• Solid retail domain knowledge, with a strong commercial understanding of metrics such as sell-through, OOS rate, clearance percentage, return rate, and AOV.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively present metric validation findings to non-technical business stakeholders.

• Experience utilizing Claude API or similar AI tools to translate business metric register rules into dbt Gold model SQL.

• Familiarity with Cortex Analyst YAML generation for structuring Semantic Layer definitions in line with metric register requirements.

• Experience in monitoring Cortex ML models, including performance metrics for Forecasting and Anomaly Detection, and initiating retraining workflows as needed.

• Understanding of NLQ (Natural Language Query) context management, which includes maintaining governance and semantic layer context to support AI-driven business user interfaces.

• Exposure to LLM APIs, Snowflake Cortex, or similar AI-oriented analytics platforms, whether in production, prototype, or personal project settings.
