Analytics Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Develop and maintain dbt models that convert raw data from various sources into clean, thoroughly tested, and well-documented datasets.

• Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product teams to transform ambiguous questions into robust data models instead of temporary queries.

• Enhance data quality across the entire stack by creating tests, establishing expectations for key models, and addressing issues when discrepancies arise.

• Create documentation for models, metrics, and lineage to empower engineers, analysts, and partner organizations to access data confidently.

• Utilize Python when appropriate—for orchestration, ad-hoc tasks, or transformations that are not suitable for dbt.

• Elevate analytics engineering practices, including code reviews, modeling conventions, continuous integration for data, and documentation standards.

• Undertake additional engineering and data responsibilities as required to support the wider team.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a similar role where data modeling was a primary focus.

• Proficient in SQL with practical experience in dbt, including writing tests, documentation, and a logical approach to project structure.

• Comfortable using Python for data tasks, including working with pandas, scripting, and basic automation.

• Experience with a cloud data warehouse (such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or equivalent) and an aptitude for writing efficient SQL at scale.

• A preference for clarity—able to produce models, tests, and documentation that are easily understandable by others.

• Ability to work well in ambiguous situations. Political and civic data can be complex and time-sensitive; you can act quickly without leaving disarray.

• Familiarity with voter file data, VAN/EveryAction, or other political and civic data sources is advantageous.

• Experience with orchestration tools (like Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect) or modern data ingestion solutions (such as Fivetran or Airbyte) is beneficial.

• Dedicated to utilizing technology and data products to assist Democratic candidates in running for office and succeeding, promoting progressive causes, and enhancing civic engagement.
