Analytics Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Develop and uphold dbt models that convert raw data from various sources into clean, verified, and well-documented datasets.

• Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product teams to transform vague inquiries into robust data models instead of temporary queries.

• Enhance data quality throughout the stack by creating tests, establishing expectations for key models, and addressing issues when something appears incorrect.

• Document models, metrics, and lineage to enable engineers, analysts, and partner organizations to independently access information with assurance.

• Utilize Python as needed — for orchestration, ad-hoc tasks, or transformations that are not suited for dbt.

• Elevate analytics engineering practices, including code reviews, modeling conventions, continuous integration for data, and documentation standards.

• Undertake additional engineering and data responsibilities as required to assist the broader team.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a closely related role where data modeling was a primary duty.

• Proficient SQL skills and hands-on experience with dbt, including writing tests, documentation, and maintaining a logical project structure.

• Comfortable using Python for data-related tasks, including working with pandas, scripting, and light automation.

• Experience with a cloud data warehouse (such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or similar) and a knack for writing efficient SQL queries that perform well at scale.

• An inclination for clarity — your models, tests, and documentation are crafted to be usable by others.

• Ability to navigate ambiguity. Political and civic data can be complex and timelines are tight; you can act swiftly without creating disorder.

• Familiarity with voter file data, VAN/EveryAction, or other political/civic data sources is a plus.

• Experience with orchestration tools (like Airflow, Dagster, Prefect) or modern data ingestion methods (such as Fivetran, Airbyte) is advantageous.

• Dedicated to using technology and data products to support Democratic candidates in their campaigns, promote progressive causes, and enhance civic engagement.
