Aircraft Certification Engineer – Propulsion

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Assist in the airworthiness certification process for a military commercial derivative aircraft (MCDA).

• Act as a technical authority on certification approaches, connecting FAA Title 14 CFR Part 25 regulations with MIL-HDBK-516C military airworthiness standards.

• Collaborate effectively with government and prime contractor stakeholders to ensure aircraft certification is compliant, safe, and on schedule.

• Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) level expertise in engine performance, installation, fuel/oil systems, and airframe integration.

• Function as the technical SME for aircraft certification, ensuring adherence to FAA regulations and MIL-HDBK-516C airworthiness criteria.

• Create, review, and implement certification plans for MCDA initiatives.

• Engage with military airworthiness authorities and DER/DAR representatives to facilitate approval processes.

• Identify and address certification discrepancies stemming from the interplay of civil and military airworthiness standards.

• Mentor junior engineers and aid in the advancement of internal certification procedures, tools, and best practices.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field.

• Over 15 years of experience in aircraft certification related to propulsion, with direct involvement in FAA type certification or supplemental type certificate (STC) programs.

• Previous experience with military commercial derivative aircraft programs is preferred.

• Ability to successfully pass a Tier 1 (minimum) Investigation for work on Department of Defense contracts.

• An existing security clearance is preferred.

• FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) authorization in one or more disciplines.

• Must possess a comprehensive understanding of Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14CFR - particularly Chapter I, Part 25).

• Requires program management experience, strong communication skills, and a proven ability to coordinate certification programs for alterations and modifications.

• Should have experience in producing certification documents such as ICAs, Ground/Flight Test Plans, Compliance Checklists, Project Specific Certification Plans, etc.
