AI Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Develop production-quality code using TypeScript, incorporating AI tools.

• Create full-stack prototypes that feature front-end interfaces to showcase capabilities to stakeholders and clients.

• Engage in prompt engineering and testing with LLMs, which include Claude, Gemini, and OpenAI models.

• Conduct context engineering to identify the appropriate data to present to LLMs and agents.

• Design agentic workflows.

• Assist in building systems for efficient monitoring and testing of LLM performance.

• Analyze extensive data sets.

• Design and implement scalable and maintainable solutions for various clients.

• Contribute as a thought leader in discussions about LLM usage, including challenging or proposing technical directions and identifying early project concerns and focus areas.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related fields, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 4 years of software development experience, preferably with some background in retail, e-commerce, or another applied AI/technology sector.

• Experience in building AI or LLM-powered products is advantageous.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with proven ability to collaborate effectively with various levels of internal and external stakeholders.

• Strong asynchronous written communication skills are crucial, as Labs operates across time zones with small, distributed teams.

• Exceptional problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management capabilities, complemented by demonstrated strategic thinking.

• Practical experience with modern prototyping technologies, particularly React, TypeScript, and SQL, enabling the development of a functional UI backed by a real data model.

• Hands-on experience with LLMs and prompt engineering, including familiarity with at least one of the APIs: Claude, Gemini, or OpenAI.

• A demonstrated passion for and experience in agentic software engineering, whether through professional or personal projects. We anticipate enthusiasm for utilizing AI coding tools in daily tasks.

• Basic understanding of system design, scalability principles, API usage, and open-source packages.

• Familiarity with assessing model performance using structured testing and metrics.

• Ability to navigate ambiguity in product definition, with guidance from senior engineers when necessary.

• Sound judgment in discerning when to trust an LLM's output and when to question it, grounded in actual engineering knowledge and experience beyond mere information retrieval.
