This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Leads the development, prototyping, and implementation of machine learning models—especially in natural language processing (NLP) and recommender systems—across various product lines.
• Utilizes AWS and Azure platforms, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code tools to build and sustain production-ready AI systems that can scale effectively.
• Oversees the process from proof-of-concept to full product deployment, including data ingestion, model training, implementation, performance monitoring, and iterative improvements.
• Guides, influences, and supports product decision-making.
• Directly manages 1–3 AI Engineers and occasionally supervises flex contributors on specific projects.
• Offers expertise on coding best practices, model development, and data governance.
• Collaborates closely with Product, Engineering, IT Managers, Data Stewards, and senior executives to ensure AI initiatives align with organizational goals.
• Guarantees that AI solutions comply with governance and regulatory standards, including student data privacy.
• Provides essential input and execution assistance, uncovering practical applications for AI to enhance business results.
• Ensures AI deliverables are thoroughly documented, reproducible, and monitored for ongoing performance and data integrity.
• Partners with governance teams and legal departments to adapt to changing data privacy regulations and responsible AI practices.
• Keeps updated on emerging trends and tools—such as large language models—and assesses their relevance.
• Promotes strong DevOps/MLOps, agile methodologies, and cross-functional collaboration to maximize the effectiveness of AI implementations.
• Aligns K12’s AI capabilities with the requirements of our schools and school services teams to promote the use of actionable data for improved outcomes.
• Identifies and outlines strategic opportunities to leverage data science across other business areas and functions in support of K12’s mission, vision, and long-term strategy.
• Exhibits a passion for education and the K12 experience, actively inspiring and motivating employees to share the same enthusiasm.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline AND six (6) years of relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proven experience in designing and deploying machine learning models—particularly NLP and recommender systems—using Python and popular ML libraries (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn).
• Expertise in AWS, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform to create scalable, secure, and high-performance environments.
