This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Perform comprehensive reviews of applications utilizing Empowerly’s AdCom evaluation rubric.

• Assign clear academic ratings based on grades, course rigor, curriculum progression, and alignment with the major.

• Assess extracurricular participation, leadership roles, impact, and uniqueness, including accolades from significant competitions.

• Analyze essays for their narrative strength, authenticity, clarity, intellectual vitality, and alignment with institutional values.

• Detect academic inconsistencies (e.g., trends in grades, B’s/C’s in essential subjects) and provide tactful, realistic feedback.

• Utilize and articulate distinctions in the rating scale, including high-level academic validation (e.g., national or international accolades).

• Offer actionable recommendations for enhancement in academics, activities, and application storytelling.

• Customize overall application feedback to particular university contexts when relevant.

• Conclude each review with constructive encouragement and clear steps for fortifying the application.

• Conduct reviews thoroughly and efficiently (initial reviews may take 30+ minutes).

• Uphold integrity by disclosing any assigned reviews that may present a conflict of interest (e.g., reviewing an applicant who is one’s own student).

• Regularly check the AdCom portal for assigned reviews.

• Engage in calibration discussions and mock review sessions to ensure consistency among reviewers.

• Keep current with Empowerly communications by monitoring the Empowerly email and Slack accounts.


⛳️ Requirements

• Previous experience in evaluating undergraduate admissions (former admissions officers are highly preferred).

• Comprehensive understanding of standards for selective college admissions and committee evaluation processes.

• Capability to assess academic rigor across diverse high school curricula (AP, IB, honors, etc.).

• Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, actionable, and tactful feedback.

• Proficiency in applying standardized rubrics consistently and articulating rating distinctions clearly.

• Strong time management abilities and capacity to meet review deadlines.

• Proactive communication ahead of key deadlines.

• Dedication to confidentiality and professional ethics.
