W2 Professorship, Engineering Design and Simulation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

šŸ“‹ Description

• Contribute to the development of the Master’s program in Additive Manufacturing and assist in student recruitment efforts.

• Conduct live sessions in English for Masterclasses and expert seminars focusing on Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Finite Element Methods (FEM), virtual prototyping, and digital twins.

• Offer academic mentorship and guidance for project and research initiatives; design and assess portfolio evaluations, examinations, and Master’s theses.

• Engage in applied research and transfer projects related to numerical simulation, computer-aided design, and digital product validation in collaboration with industry partners and research institutions.

• Initiate and secure third-party funding to enhance applied research efforts at our university.

• Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and represent the university at relevant conferences and industry events.

• Participate in research-driven product development, spin-offs/start-up initiatives, and patent applications.

• Engage in academic self-governance, contribute to curriculum design, and participate in international collaborations.


ā›³ļø Requirements

• Possession of a completed university degree.

• Demonstrated teaching and didactic skills through practical experience.

• Proven capacity for independent academic work, typically substantiated by an above-average doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Mechatronics, or related fields.

• Significant accomplishments in applying or developing scientific knowledge and methods, with at least five years of professional experience, including a minimum of three years outside of higher education—preferably in product development, simulation technologies, or digital prototyping.

• Ability and willingness to teach, conduct research, and engage in transfer activities in English.

• Commitment to advancing higher-education didactic skills, particularly in (generative) AI-assisted teaching.

• Enthusiasm for developing and implementing new didactic formats in engineering education.

• Openness to interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues in additive manufacturing, materials science, robotics, and AI.

• Experience in industry projects, ideally related to Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), Finite Element Methods (FEM), or digital twin applications.

• International experience or a desire to incorporate global trends in engineering education and simulation into teaching and research.

• Commitment to actively participate in the establishment and growth of a new university.

• A visible research focus in computational engineering, simulation technologies, or next-generation design processes.

• Understanding of research as a connection between academia, industry, and society.
