Vice President – AI Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Establish Alight’s AI vision and articulate a unique AI strategy along with a targeted investment portfolio.

• Make decisions regarding building, buying, partnering, and investments while managing costs per outcome.

• Advance the AI reference architecture and influence the enterprise operating model.

• Direct a reusable, secure, and reliable AI platform that encompasses agentic foundations, orchestration, retrieval, knowledge access, model selection, evaluation, observability, and enterprise integration.

• Create the AI Development Lifecycle incorporating standards, testing, security, and quality checkpoints.

• Provide agentic AI-enhanced benefits experiences that enable participants to comprehend and act upon their benefits.

• Take ownership of production outcomes, ensuring adoption, reliability, user experience, and measurable value.

• Recognize and expand intelligent automation within intricate operational processes.

• Integrate responsible AI into solution design, evaluation, release, monitoring, and enhancement.

• Collaborate with leaders in risk, security, privacy, legal, and compliance to implement practical AI controls.

• Recruit, nurture, and lead an AI team encompassing platform engineering, applied AI, product delivery, intelligent automation, quality assurance, evaluation, and responsible AI.

• Represent Alight’s AI aspirations to clients, partners, executives, and the wider market.

• Report to the senior executive responsible for Alight’s data, AI, and transformation initiatives, collaborating across product, technology, operations, commercial, risk, and compliance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in technology and AI leadership with responsibility for business outcomes.

• Led a multi-team AI, machine learning, software, or platform organization alongside other senior leaders.

• Successfully deployed AI or complex technology products into production for a large user base, delivering measurable value.

• Current knowledge of generative AI, large language models, agentic systems, retrieval, evaluation, and production AI engineering.

• Developed shared platforms or foundational capabilities utilized by multiple product and engineering teams.

• Managed a significant investment portfolio or budget and made decisions regarding build, buy, and partner strategies.

• Experience working in a regulated, high-trust environment.

• Practical understanding of AI risk, privacy, security, and lifecycle governance.

• Recruited and cultivated senior technical leaders.

• Strong communication skills across engineers, clients, and executives.

• Necessary technical expertise to challenge architectures, evaluate approaches, and determine production readiness.

• Must possess work authorization in the Employing Country without current or future visa sponsorship.

• Successful completion of a background check; applicable checks may include SSN/SIN validation, education verification, employment verification, criminal check, sanctions/watch-list search, credit check, and/or drug test.

• Virtual interviews will be conducted via video; camera-on participation may be required.
