UX/UI Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Convert user and business requirements into contemporary, responsive user interfaces utilizing HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern frameworks (such as Angular, React, or Vue.js).

• Apply user-centered design (UCD) and human-centered design (HCD) principles to enhance usability and accessibility for DoD mission users.

• Engage with stakeholders to create journey maps, wireframes, and prototypes that effectively convey design intentions.

• Ensure that front-end components comply with Section 508 and WCAG 2.x accessibility standards, as well as DoD Manual 8400.01 requirements.

• Develop and uphold cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility, optimizing performance for low bandwidth and high-latency environments such as ships or remote deployments.

• Carry out UI/UX performance testing and benchmarking, documenting findings and improvement strategies for iterative design cycles.

• Aid in the integration of case management and reporting workflows through user-friendly layouts and data visualizations.

• Work collaboratively with backend developers, data engineers, and architects to ensure smooth integration between front-end and system APIs.

• Implement techniques for data compression, caching, and image optimization to enhance load times and scalability.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives) and contribute to ongoing design enhancements.

• Maintain version control practices through repositories like AWS CodeCommit or GitHub Enterprise.

• Contribute to documentation and design standards to ensure a consistent UI/UX presentation throughout the system lifecycle.

• Expertise in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and at least one modern framework (React, Angular, or Vue).

• Experience in creating accessible, responsive, and modular front-end components in Agile settings.

• Knowledge of DoD or federal digital service standards, data visualization, and iterative software delivery processes.

• Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch.

• Understanding of RESTful APIs, JSON integration, and data-driven UI components.

• Familiarity with front-end performance optimization and accessibility testing tools (e.g., Axe, SortSite).

• Comprehension of UI/UX testing methodologies, including A/B testing and user feedback loops.

• Strong collaborative and communication skills across design and technical teams.

• Exceptional attention to detail with an emphasis on usability, simplicity, and accessibility.

• Capability to prioritize conflicting tasks and deliver high-quality UI components within Agile timelines.

• A problem-solving attitude with an understanding of iterative improvement and user-centered adaptation.

• Preferred certifications include CompTIA Security+ CE (DoD 8570), Certified Web Accessibility Specialist (CWAS) or UX Design certification, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or equivalent.
