UX/UI Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Convert user and business needs into contemporary, responsive user interfaces utilizing HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern frameworks (e.g., Angular, React, or Vue.js)

• Apply user-centered design (UCD) and human-centered design (HCD) principles to enhance usability and accessibility for DoD mission users

• Work alongside stakeholders to create journey maps, wireframes, and prototypes that effectively convey design intent

• Ensure front-end components meet Section 508 and WCAG 2.x accessibility standards, as well as DoD Manual 8400.01 requirements

• Create and sustain cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility, optimizing performance for low bandwidth and high-latency scenarios, such as ships or remote deployments

• Perform UI/UX performance testing and benchmarking, documenting insights and improvement strategies for iterative design cycles

• Facilitate the integration of case management and reporting workflows through user-friendly layouts and data visualizations

• Collaborate with backend developers, data engineers, and architects to ensure smooth integration between front-end and system APIs

• Employ data compression, caching, and image optimization techniques to enhance load times and scalability

• Engage in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives) and contribute to ongoing design enhancement

• Uphold version control practices through repositories such as AWS CodeCommit or GitHub Enterprise

• Contribute to documentation and design standards to ensure a consistent UI/UX presentation throughout the system lifecycle

⛳️ Requirements

• Expertise in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and at least one modern framework (React, Angular, or Vue)

• Experience in developing accessible, responsive, and modular front-end components within Agile settings

• Acquainted with DoD or federal digital service standards, data visualization, and iterative software delivery

• Proficient in using design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch

• Knowledge of RESTful APIs, JSON integration, and data-driven UI components

• Familiar with front-end performance optimization and accessibility testing tools (e.g., Axe, SortSite)

• Understanding of UI/UX testing methodologies like A/B testing and user feedback loops

• Excellent collaboration and communication skills across design and technical teams

• Strong attention to detail with an emphasis on usability, simplicity, and accessibility

• Capability to prioritize multiple tasks and deliver high-quality UI components within Agile timelines

• Problem-solving attitude with an understanding of iterative improvement and user-centered adaptation

• Preferred certifications: CompTIA Security+ CE (DoD 8570), Certified Web Accessibility Specialist (CWAS) or UX Design certification, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or equivalent
