This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Reporting to the Content Producer (French) within the Content & Curriculum department, you will collaborate closely with all members of the Content & Curriculum team to translate, adapt, and enhance high-quality learning materials across language, social studies, science, and mathematics to benefit French Immersion & Core French students in K12.
• Translate, write, research, edit, storyboard, and create materials for both students and teachers in Edwin to address market demands and enhance engagement and retention.
• As needed, communicate requirements, assign tasks, and review the work of Nelson staff and freelancers to ensure that competing deadlines and priorities are effectively managed.
• Utilize an agile workflow and development process to create app-ready Edwin content.
• Respond swiftly to both internal and external content needs, including new development, licensing, or repackaging of content.
• Leverage customer feedback and usage data to collaboratively prioritize and plan content revisions or additions for the Edwin library together with C&C Leads & Specialists.
• Populate an editorial calendar for highlighted Edwin content in partnership with C&C Leads and the Commercial team to ensure timely content delivery.
• In conjunction with Content & Curriculum, Content Services, and Design teams, manage project-specific authoring templates, guidelines, and best practices to create consistent, bias-free, inclusive, and engaging Edwin content experiences.
• Research, write, edit, and storyboard text/audio/video/interactive experiences for Edwin.
• As necessary, provide marketing with key benefit statements for highlighted learning experiences.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to conceptualize and create compelling content learning experiences that foster usage, retention, and user satisfaction.
• Continuously consider the voice of the customer when authoring and developing new materials, understanding teaching and learning challenges, approaches, curriculum, pedagogy, and initiatives that promote classroom engagement and retention.
• Develop content outlines, plans, and release schedules for assigned Edwin learning objects, projects, collections, and modules; authoring or overseeing the authorship of these until publication/live in the app.
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, French, Linguistics, Translation, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience in K–12 environments.
• Exceptional understanding of K12 pedagogy, curriculum, and instructional design, with demonstrated experience in supporting French Immersion and Core French programs.
• High proficiency in both French and English, with the capability to translate and adapt educational content accurately and appropriately for student audiences.
• Experience in educational translation and localization, ensuring linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance, and age-appropriate language.
• Knowledge of second-language acquisition principles and effective practices for French Immersion instruction and acquisition.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with educators, curriculum developers, and subject-matter experts.
• Proven experience in developing, adapting, and reviewing French Immersion learning resources that align with curriculum outcomes in Canada.
• Strong written communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and sound editorial judgment.
• Proficient problem-solver and innovator.
• Experience in developing inclusive, accessible, and culturally responsive educational materials that support Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
• Experience working within provincial/territorial curriculum frameworks is considered an asset.
• Significant experience in authoring, editing, and creating content for web, apps, videos, interactives, and/or games in the EdTech sector.
• A flexible technological mindset that prioritizes user experience while adapting to new and evolving software, AI, technologies, and skill set requirements.
• Working knowledge of HTML is a plus.
• All freelance work at Nelson is conducted on a work-for-hire basis, with freelancers submitting invoices for tasks and projects as agreed upon.
• The pay rate varies based on experience and skill level, and may also be determined by predetermined task-based flat rates.
