This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Oversee the necessary preparations for the delivery of the Africa Mercy II and its subsequent integration into operations and field service.
• Develop operational documentation, maintenance strategies, and inventory requirements for the ship's entry into service.
• Transition to the Technical Superintendent position post-delivery and manage the preparation and submission of warranty claims.
• Create and coordinate SMS documentation, regulatory paperwork, and shipboard manuals.
• Supervise and support the planned maintenance system while tracking routine and corrective maintenance on the assigned vessel.
• Ensure compliance with classification and Flag State requirements for timely delivery and oversee surveys and identified defects.
• Manage technical work plans for equipping, initial field service, and annual maintenance phases, including drydocking activities.
• Evaluate repair and modification requests to ensure adherence to statutory regulations and classification society standards.
• Inspect machinery, equipment, or spaces; draft job specifications; and solicit bids from contractors or shipyards.
• Maintain communication with contractors to guarantee that work is performed in accordance with contract stipulations.
• Investigate machinery incidents and provide guidance to ship officers on preventing future occurrences.
• Organize supply inventories for repair parts and consumables related to marine operations specialties.
• Keep detailed records of technical expenses associated with repairs, supplies, and personnel.
• Collaborate with regulatory agencies concerning alterations, repairs, and modifications.
• Assess and provide advice on the qualifications of technical staff and applicants.
• Stay informed about the Company SMS and assist the QHSE Manager in promoting safe working practices onboard.
• Visit the vessel during construction, equipping, and field service phases; conduct the annual Company Vessel Inspection following delivery.
• Execute other assigned duties as necessary.
• Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
• Capable of drafting reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
• Skilled in presenting information and addressing inquiries from managers, contractors, suppliers, and the general public.
• Competent in defining problems, gathering data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
• Able to interpret technical instructions presented in mathematical or diagrammatic formats and manage both abstract and concrete variables.
• Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) from a four-year college or university, combined with 10 years of relevant industry experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least two years of experience on ROPAX or cruise vessels.
• Certificate of Competency in accordance with STCW III/2 is required.
• Chief Engineer designation is preferred.
• Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training is required within the first year of employment.
