This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Provide technical leadership for systems that support Canadian payment rails such as Interac e-Transfer®, Interac Debit, EFT (ACSS), Real-Time Rail (RTR), and cheque imaging, ensuring alignment with Payments Canada rules and standards.
• Lead design decisions to guarantee high availability, low latency, resiliency, and scalability for both member-facing and back-office payment services.
• Oversee technical aspects of payment processing flows, which include initiation, validation, clearing, settlement, reconciliation, returns, reversals, and exception handling.
• Collaborate closely with Payment Product and Payment Operations teams to understand business objectives, regulatory requirements, and operational challenges, and to co-develop technology solutions that address business needs.
• Convert product concepts, operational necessities, and regulatory guidelines into precise technical options, solution designs, and implementation strategies.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to Product and Operations, offering insights on feasibility, trade-offs, risk, cost, and long-term effects of technology decisions.
• Facilitate the advancement of payment products and services by identifying technological opportunities that enhance member experience, operational efficiency, and resilience.
• Lead integrations with Payments Canada-operated systems (ACSS, Lynx, RTR), Interac services, and external payment gateways.
• Promote adoption and coexistence strategies for ISO 20022 messaging, aiding in migration, translation, and backward compatibility across payment ecosystems.
• Modernize legacy payment services to enable 24x7 operations, enhance observability, and support future payment innovations while minimizing technical debt.
• Direct and continually enhance CI/CD pipelines for payment platforms, facilitating frequent, low-risk deployments while upholding stringent security and compliance standards.
• Ensure robust alignment with DevSecOps principles, encompassing secure coding, automated testing, vulnerability management, and audit readiness.
• Advocate for system observability, including monitoring, alerting, logging, and performance metrics, while appropriately managing sensitive and regulated data.
• Collaborate closely with Payment Operations, Risk, Fraud, and Compliance teams to guarantee that payment platforms uphold AML/ATF controls, fraud detection, real-time monitoring, and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to software developers, systems analysts, and QA analysts, fostering best practices in secure coding, performance optimization, and resilient design.
• Work alongside Agile Delivery Leads, Partners, and Vendors to ensure that payment platform priorities, technical health, and operational risks are accurately represented and prioritized in the backlog.
• Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex payment issues, incidents, and architectural decisions.
• Maintain strong relationships with Vendors, focusing on supporting Servus’s needs within the broader payment ecosystem.
• 6+ years of experience in a senior software engineering or technical lead role, supporting complex, mission-critical platforms.
• Completed a relevant certificate, diploma, degree, or professional designation; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be taken into account.
• Proven experience in leading technical teams and delivering high-availability systems.
• Knowledge of pertinent legislation and regulations related to privacy, PII, and anti-money laundering.
• Practical experience with the Canadian payments ecosystem, including Interac services, Payments Canada, and major payment gateways.
• Strong comprehension of retail and wholesale payment flows, clearing & settlement cycles, reconciliation, and exception handling.
• Extensive knowledge of modern application development and integration patterns, including APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• Significant experience with source control (Git) and CI/CD platforms such as Azure DevOps or GitLab.
• Proficiency in commonly used enterprise programming languages and data technologies (e.g., Java, C#, SQL, JavaScript/TypeScript).
