This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Oversees and executes development tasks related to perception technologies and planning algorithms for autonomous large mining haul trucks.
• Investigates solutions for onboard systems to facilitate autonomous large mining haul trucks.
• Creates project plans along with necessary project documentation.
• Assesses system architectures and the associated electrical, electro-mechanical, and hydraulic components.
• Drafts specifications for hardware and software development, including the definition of algorithms.
• Engages in the formulation of development contracts.
• Manages substantial capital development projects exceeding $500k.
• Allocates tasks and responsibilities to suitable personnel.
• Identifies and resolves issues and conflicts within the project team and/or plan.
• Recognizes and manages project dependencies and the critical path.
• Estimates time and cost requirements for projects.
• Plans and schedules project timelines and milestones utilizing appropriate tools.
• Monitors project milestones and deliverables.
• Operates both independently and collaboratively with other engineers, designers, and production staff or on special projects.
• Researches and evaluates customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and additional data.
• Collaborates with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, troubleshoot system issues, and provide technical information.
• A Master of Science or Master of Engineering degree (M.S./M.E.) with 6 to 8 years of pertinent mechanical experience in an engineering setting.
• A Bachelor’s degree (BSEE, BSCE, BSME, or BS in Mechatronic Engineering) with 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in an engineering environment.
• Familiarity with principles of autonomous system technology, including perception, pose, and self-localization/mapping.
• Understanding of real-time embedded systems.
• Proficiency with open-source development tools (e.g., ROS).
• Knowledge of software programming tools (e.g., Linux, CoDeSys, C++, etc.).
• Familiarity with communication protocols (e.g., RS232, CanOpen, J1939, etc.).
• Understanding of hardware and computing platforms.
• Knowledge of system modeling techniques and software (e.g., Matlab, Simulink).
• Proficiency in Project Management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project).
• Ability to specify perception sensors to fulfill environmental and performance criteria.
• Capable of accurately defining the scope of technical projects.
• Proficient in writing specifications that detail functionality.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance manuals, and procedure manuals, along with software specifications.
• Competence in applying mathematical concepts like algebra, probability and statistical inference, as well as basic plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to real-world situations.
• Expected to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% to customer or supplier locations.
• Ability to complete and uphold mine certifications or safety training such as Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) hazard training.
• Capable of obtaining and maintaining a driver's license and passport.
