Tax Specialist, CPA

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Prepare and examine federal and state partnership tax returns (Form 1065 and associated schedules) for clients in the venture capital sector.

• Oversee the production of K-1 forms, ensuring quality review and timely delivery to limited partners.

• Collaborate with fund accountants and external CPAs to collect source data and address any discrepancies.

• Address tax notices and assist clients with inquiries related to fund-level tax issues.

• Monitor filing deadlines for a portfolio of funds to ensure compliance.

• Identify and highlight technical concerns (such as allocations, Section 704(b), carried interest treatment, and PFIC considerations) and escalate them as necessary.

• Contribute to process enhancements to streamline the K-1 delivery workflow, increasing speed and accuracy at scale.

⛳️ Requirements

• Valid CPA license.

• Over 5 years of experience in partnership tax, with substantial exposure to fund structures (venture capital, private equity, or fund of funds).

• Extensive knowledge of Form 1065, Schedule K-1, and state composite/withholding filing obligations.

• Experience working within or alongside a fund administrator, registered investment advisor, or a public accounting firm that has an investment management focus.

• Understanding of fund accounting principles: capital accounts, waterfall mechanics, and allocation schedules.

• Proficiency with tax software (such as UltraTax, CCH Axcess, or similar platforms).

• Excellent reviewing skills; you notice details that others may overlook.

• Self-motivated work approach; you are capable of managing your own deadlines without external prompting.
