This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Responsible for the comprehensive management of U.S. sales and use tax compliance, as well as Canadian GST/HST compliance.
• Prepares, reviews, and ensures the timely filing of U.S. sales and use tax returns across the company's multi-state nexus landscape.
• Maintains the sales tax compliance calendar, coordinates payment processes, and conducts related account reconciliations.
• Investigates and addresses state and local sales tax notices, inquiries, and audits.
• Keeps taxability matrices, nexus determinations, and customer exemption certificates current and accurate.
• Collaborates with Billing, Accounts Receivable, and IT teams on tax coding, invoicing configurations, and tax engine setups (e.g., Avalara, Vertex).
• Tracks changes in U.S. state and local indirect tax laws and evaluates their impact on the business.
• Prepares and submits Canadian federal and provincial indirect tax returns (GST/HST, QST, and similar).
• Regularly reconciles GST/HST payable and receivable accounts.
• Addresses inquiries from the CRA and provincial tax authorities while managing relevant documentation and audits.
• Reviews VAT/GST returns prepared by outsourced providers or local finance teams across EMEA, APAC, and other relevant regions.
• Identifies discrepancies, follows up with preparers, and guarantees timely and accurate submissions.
• Keeps abreast of changes in international VAT/GST rates and regulations that may impact the business.
• Shows a willingness to learn and assist with U.S. and international corporate income tax issues.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Significant experience in indirect tax is necessary, particularly hands-on experience with U.S. sales and use tax compliance; experience in Canadian GST/HST and/or international VAT/GST is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with sales tax compliance and automation software (e.g., Avalara, Vertex, OneSource) is preferred.
• Proficient in Excel; experience with an ERP system (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) is an advantage.
• Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail, capable of managing multiple filing deadlines concurrently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external advisors.
• CPA, CMI, or progress towards a relevant certification is considered a plus.
