This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Oversee the global tax strategy for the organization’s international structure and operations.

• Act as the primary tax advisor to executive leadership on critical tax and strategic issues.

• Manage intricate international and cross-border tax planning, including the assessment and creation of tax-efficient corporate structures.

• Provide guidance on foreign affiliates, surplus planning, repatriation, cross-border distributions, tax treaties, withholding taxes, permanent establishment, residency, central management and control, as well as other cross-border considerations.

• Take charge of the organization’s transfer pricing strategy and supervise related policies, methodologies, intercompany agreements, documentation, and execution.

• Conduct tax analysis regarding intercompany financing, service arrangements, intellectual property agreements, distributions, and other cross-border transactions.

• Develop and continuously enhance the organization's tax governance framework, internal controls, documentation standards, and tax risk management procedures.

• Oversee compliance and reporting obligations for direct and indirect taxes across applicable jurisdictions.

• Actively identify tax planning prospects, structural enhancements, and significant tax risks as the organization grows.

• Lead tax audits, disputes, controversy matters, and liaising with tax authorities.

• Direct and coordinate efforts with external accounting firms, tax advisors, legal counsel, and other specialists across various jurisdictions.

• Collaborate with finance, legal, accounting, and executive leadership to integrate tax considerations into key business and financial decisions and simplify complex tax issues into actionable recommendations.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 12 years of progressively responsible experience in Canadian and international tax, including considerable experience with a Big Four or other prominent accounting firm.

• Senior leadership experience in international tax, typically at the Senior Director level or higher within a leading accounting firm, or equivalent responsibilities within a complex multinational organization.

• Demonstrated ability to independently manage highly complex international tax issues and own tax strategy.

• Extensive expertise in Canadian international tax and the application of Canadian tax principles to intricate multinational structures.

• Significant experience with foreign affiliates, surplus planning, tax treaties, withholding taxes, permanent establishment, residency, and other cross-border tax matters.

• Strong background in multinational structures, international tax planning, intercompany arrangements, financing, distributions, and cross-border transactions.

• Profound understanding of transfer pricing strategy, policies, documentation, and implementation.

• Solid knowledge of tax governance, tax risk management, and oversight of international tax compliance.

• Extensive experience advising CFOs, founders, senior executives, boards, business owners, or other senior decision-makers on significant tax matters.

• Experience in directing and critically evaluating external tax advisors, accounting firms, legal counsel, and other specialists.

• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance tax efficiency, technical defensibility, compliance, operational practicality, and broader business goals.

• Capacity to operate with a high level of independence, judgment, and ownership.

• Exceptional analytical, written, communication, and negotiation skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Law, or a related field.

• CPA designation is highly preferred; another equivalent senior professional tax qualification may be considered.

• Advanced Canadian tax education or professional training is strongly preferred.

• Experience with complex multinational structures involving Hong Kong or other major international operating jurisdictions is preferred.

• Prior in-house experience within a complex multinational organization is advantageous, although not mandatory.

• Experience with high-growth and highly international businesses is preferred.

• Familiarity with technology, SaaS, software, digital businesses, or other intellectual property-driven organizations is preferred.

• Strong proficiency in professional English communication will be evaluated during the application process.
