This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee the preparation and evaluation of the portfolio's quarterly (as needed) and annual tax provisions.
• Create supporting schedules for current and deferred tax calculations, including reconciliations for effective tax rates.
• Evaluate the effects of tax law modifications, encompassing U.S. and international tax reforms, on financial statements.
• Assist in tax provision calculations related to international tax frameworks, such as GILTI, BEAT, FDII, Subpart F, foreign tax credits, and considerations for Pillar Two as they emerge.
• Collaborate with the corporate tax team and portfolio finance teams to ensure timely and precise tax accruals and disclosures.
• Aid in the automation and implementation of tax provision software solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Maintain well-organized documentation of provision workpapers, assumptions, and critical judgments to support audit and compliance reviews.
• Oversee the preparation and evaluation of federal, state, and local income tax returns by external service providers, ensuring timely and precise filings.
• Work with the Head of Finance, M&A team, and external advisors on various tax elections and research initiatives concerning the businesses.
• Manage tax compliance procedures for both Corporate and Sales along with US/VAT, covering tax reporting, estimated tax payments, and extensions.
• Preserve tax and audit records while ensuring adherence to all relevant laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with external tax advisors and auditors to ensure precise tax filings and documentation.
• Manage the documentation of intercompany arrangements and guarantee transfer pricing compliance under CRA, IRS, and OECD guidelines.
• Assist in gathering financial data for transfer pricing reports and internal benchmarking.
• Help coordinate with external advisors and internal stakeholders to evaluate new intercompany transactions.
• Support transfer pricing audits and contribute to dispute resolution strategies as necessary.
• Monitor changing international tax regulations, including OECD BEPS Pillar One and Pillar Two, and evaluate their impact on the portfolio’s transfer pricing strategy.
• Assist with tax due diligence for acquisitions within the portfolio, including identifying tax exposures, reviewing historical tax filings, and analyzing tax attributes.
• Support the onboarding of newly acquired entities by coordinating with local finance teams to collect tax information, confirm tax registrations, and align compliance processes with group policies.
• Provide strategic tax planning advice for international expansion and entity restructuring.
• Collaborate closely with the VP of Tax and legal team to model tax implications of proposed transactions, assist in documenting structuring steps, and coordinate input from external advisors as necessary.
• Maintain transaction files, structure memos, and supporting documentation for internal reporting and audit preparedness.
• Monitor and conduct research and analysis of tax issues, including new tax legislation and regulatory changes, summarizing implications for the portfolio.
• Provide tax insights on operational matters and address queries from portfolio finance teams.
• Offer guidance on U.S. and Canadian tax implications of business transactions and restructurings.
• Assist with tax modeling and scenario planning for potential legislative changes and corporate tax strategies as needed.
• Support the VP of Tax, Legal, and Finance teams in assessing and implementing tax-efficient structures for investments and repatriation strategies tailored to the portfolio and its cross-border operations.
• Provide assistance to operating businesses as required on tax audit defense strategies and responses to inquiries from the IRS and foreign tax authorities.
• Professional CPA/CA designation.
• 4+ years of post-designation tax experience in public accounting or corporate tax environments, with exposure to both Canadian and U.S. tax matters; experience with international tax is advantageous.
• Strong technical proficiency in Canadian & U.S. corporate taxation, tax accounting, transfer pricing, and international tax regulations.
• Experience in managing tax compliance and provision processes.
• Familiarity with M&A tax due diligence, tax structuring, and cross-border tax planning.
• Excellent research, analytical, and organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Effective communicator capable of collaborating with non-tax stakeholders and external advisors.
