This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Evaluate clinical documentation to assign and sequence diagnostic and procedural codes for specified patient categories.
• Verify APC calculations to accurately reflect documented diagnoses and procedures for hospitals.
• Examine and analyze documentation to ensure precise abstraction of clinical data in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Choose and order ICD-10 and/or CPT/HCPCS codes for ancillary services, hospitals, clinics, physician professional fees, technical fees, and evaluation and management patient categories.
• Review facility records to confirm that APC assignments and/or Evaluation and Management codes align with documented diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstract clinical data to substantiate diagnoses, procedures, and discharge dispositions.
• Execute assigned tasks utilizing appropriate resources.
• Serve as a resource for client personnel regarding data integrity, clarification, and compliant coding practices, including provider inquiries.
• Uphold patient and provider confidentiality in adherence to HIPAA Guidelines.
• Engage in client and Savista meetings, training sessions, and conference calls.
• Stay updated on coding systems, guidelines, government regulations, protocols, and third-party requirements.
• Collaborate with client personnel and providers as necessary.
• Successfully complete a pre-employment skills assessment.
• Possess an active AHIMA credential, including RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCA, or an active AAPC credential such as COC, CCS-P, CPC, or a related specialty credential.
• Have two years of recent, relevant hands-on coding experience.
• Knowledgeable in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, as well as ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS code sets.
• Consistently achieve a coding quality threshold of 95% while adhering to client-specific and/or Savista production or quality standards.
• Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Capable of data entry and sorting/filtering Excel files.
• Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving abilities with both internal and external customers.
• Recent, relevant active-production coding experience is highly preferred.
• An associate degree in HIM or a healthcare-related field, or equivalent education and experience, is preferred.
• Experience with EPIC and Optum CAC is preferred.
• Experience with facility and professional-fee coding is a plus.
