Student Worker III – Virtual Reading Tutor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provide administrative support for students currently enrolled.

• This position is an off-campus Federal Work Study opportunity or a tutoring role.

• READ 718 is a nonprofit literacy center located in Brooklyn, dedicated to delivering individualized evidence-based reading instruction to students in grades 3-8 who are reading below their grade level and meet low-income criteria.

• Commit to tutoring for at least one semester during the academic year, either from August to December or January to June.

• Tutors will meet one-on-one with the same student(s) twice a week for a duration of 10-20 weeks after school hours (between 2-7pm EST).

• Each session lasts for one hour.

• Adhere to a structured lesson plan utilizing pre-selected curriculum and texts.

• Participate in ongoing coaching sessions.

• All tutoring sessions and related tasks will be conducted remotely via Zoom!

⛳️ Requirements

• No prior experience is necessary, though a background in education or working with children is advantageous.

• Must possess a growth mindset and a positive attitude.

• Attend a brief 20-minute virtual orientation.

• Provide two character references.

• Complete a third-party background check.

• Participate in a 2.5-hour virtual literacy training session.

• Must be an enrolled student at DeVry/Keller.

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.

• Must be a current student in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

• Enrollment in a minimum of six credits per semester is mandatory.

• Eligibility for Federal Work Study (FWS) funds is required.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
