This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hawaii.
• At Rula, fostering high levels of trust with payers, patients, and providers is the cornerstone of accessible mental healthcare.
• We are in search of a Staff Software Engineer to take on the pivotal role as the founding leader of our emerging Trust & Safety Engineering team.
• Act as the primary architect of our digital defenses, spearheading product-driven implementations that allow us to fulfill, audit, measure, and enforce essential Trust & Safety policies.
• Champion both product architecture and operational, process-oriented solutions—developing robust custom tools to identify and address threats such as fraud, billing discrepancies, and credential misuse.
• Create a completely new engineering domain from the ground up, mentor senior engineers, and develop scalable systems that safeguard a crucial mental health ecosystem.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience.
• At least 1 year of experience working on Trust & Safety systems in any capacity.
• A minimum of 1 year of experience in building a new team from the ground up.
• Proven experience working within cross-functional teams to bridge the divide between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Full-stack experience in developing modern database-backed (SQL/No-SQL) web applications.
• Proficiency in microservice development.
• Experience mentoring colleagues, reviewing architectures, and establishing design patterns.
• Skilled in managing all phases of the development lifecycle: planning, specification, execution, and post-launch maintenance to measure success.
• Proven track record working on highly complex projects with a focus on delivering sustainable outcomes.
