Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and develop backend services (mainly using Go, Java, and Python) that execute AI and model inference on real-time data.

• Take full ownership of features — from drafting the design and aligning stakeholders both within and outside the team to steering decisions to fruition.

• Make key technical decisions on cross-team systems: model lifecycle management, inference routing, and agent execution.

• Ensure the quality of your deliverables — encompassing code, test coverage, documentation, operability, and rollout safety. This infrastructure supports live inference, so reliability is paramount.

• Elevate the skills of your fellow engineers through code reviews, design input, and being a trusted resource for ambiguous, cross-functional tasks.

• Engage in on-call duties for the services managed by your team, and contribute to maintaining the health of the team's processes and rituals.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of substantial experience in designing, building, and managing distributed systems or cloud-native backend infrastructure in a production environment.

• Strong familiarity with Kubernetes and distributed-systems patterns (including control loops, API servers, and high-scale control planes), alongside foundational knowledge in containerization, networking, and resource isolation.

• Expertise in at least one of Go, Java, or Python, with a willingness to work across all three languages.

• Proven history of leading cross-team technical initiatives: transforming ambiguous requirements into actionable designs that others can support.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills — capable of crafting design documents that gain alignment among stakeholders who do not directly report to you.
