Staff Machine Learning Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical and product vision for LLM, agentic, and NLP systems.

• Design and create distributed agentic systems that operate on a company-wide scale.

• Develop conversational agents that utilize tools, support multi-turn context, enable retrieval-grounded reasoning, and facilitate orchestration systems.

• Convert real-world data through processes such as entity recognition and linking, relation extraction, summarization, semantic search, and knowledge graph creation.

• Package, deploy, and manage low-latency, high-concurrency inference systems utilizing Triton, vLLM, and GPU-backed serving technologies.

• Construct evaluations and labeled-data flywheels aimed at measuring and enhancing quality.

• Collaborate with and influence cross-functional teams regarding the technical roadmap.

• Investigate issues to their root cause when quality or operational integrity is at risk.

• Elevate engineering standards through refined patterns and practices.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in computer science, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 6 years of experience in building production backend software.

• Proven history of shipping and managing ML-driven functionalities.

• Proficient in data structures and algorithms.

• Capability to translate user requirements into actionable solutions.

• Practical experience with LLMs and agentic systems, including prompt and context engineering, tool utilization, retrieval, and RAG.

• Familiarity with PyTorch.

• Experience in defining evaluations to assess and enhance quality.

• Proficient in authoring production APIs using Python.

• High level of initiative and ability to act in ambiguous, fast-paced situations.

• Demonstrated curiosity, generosity, and passion for teaching.

• Experience with knowledge graphs, large-scale information retrieval, or fine-tuning and post-training of LLMs is advantageous.

• Ability to comply with relevant government contract requirements.
