Staff Machine Learning Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and sustain scalable machine learning systems throughout the entire model lifecycle, encompassing data ingestion, training, deployment, monitoring, and retraining.

• Act as the primary authority on title risk and underwriting.

• Investigate methods to minimize model losses, enhance projected-loss accuracy, and discover new domain risks.

• Collaborate with data engineers, product teams, and domain specialists to convert business objectives into functional machine learning solutions.

• Perform ad-hoc analyses and experiments to guide modeling decisions and influence stakeholder strategies.

• Manage intricate and uncertain projects from start to finish and engage directly with product and senior leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of experience in developing and deploying models within cloud-based production environments.

• Familiarity with MLOps and engineering best practices.

• Proficient in Python, SQL, Git, and Docker.

• Extensive knowledge in supervised learning on tabular data, including feature engineering, addressing class imbalance, defining labels, and selecting thresholds.

• Experience in monitoring and assessing production models over time, including tracking degradation, drift, and error rates.

• Strong background in applied statistics with the capability to analyze metric changes and identify their drivers.

• Proven ability to review analyses, identify issues, and elevate quality standards.

• Proficient use of contemporary LLM-based coding and analysis tools, with well-informed perspectives on their advantages and limitations.

• Demonstrated history of managing complex, ambiguous projects from inception to completion.

• Experience collaborating directly with product and senior leadership, including challenging inaccurate requirements.
