Staff Engineer, Full Stack

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of reliability outcomes for essential backend services and their integration with mobile clients (React Native).

• Lead technical problem resolution during incidents by coordinating responses, diagnosing root causes, communicating status updates, and driving towards resolution.

• Develop and enhance monitoring and observability tools (dashboards, alerts, tracing, logging) to facilitate rapid detection and diagnosis.

• Conduct post-incident reviews (blameless) and ensure that insights lead to lasting improvements (technical changes, runbooks, automation, process updates).

• Enhance engineering safety and quality through the implementation of guardrails, safer migration practices, feature-flag strategies, rollout techniques, and resilience patterns.

• Collaborate with product, design, QA, and engineering teams early in the process to align delivery plans with operational risk and reliability requirements.

• Improve documentation and onboarding processes, including architecture notes, runbooks, service ownership documents, and guides on “how we work.”

• Mentor engineers through pairing, code reviews, incident shadowing, and practical coaching on production ownership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in building and operating production backend systems at scale, including debugging distributed systems and addressing performance issues.

• Strong backend experience with TypeScript/Node.js (or similar), and comfort in working across various services and APIs.

• Proven leadership in incident response: on-call participation, triage, mitigation, and conducting root-cause analysis (RCA) with follow-through.

• Solid skills in observability: hands-on experience with logging, metrics, and tracing, as well as translating signals into actionable alerts and dashboards.

• Experience working with mobile teams and understanding mobile-to-backend integration challenges (e.g., API compatibility, releases, feature flags).

• Demonstrated Staff-level individual contributor leadership: influencing through design reviews, technical direction, documentation, and cross-team collaboration.
