• Design and implement robust, scalable, and maintainable machine learning systems for widespread application across the exchange, including training pipelines, real-time inference, validation, and monitoring.
• Act as a primary expert in deep learning and advanced data science fields, possessing the versatility to guide method selection in related areas.
• Spearhead the assessment and integration of new AI/ML modeling techniques, frameworks, and research developments pertinent to OpenX’s marketplace challenges.
• Establish and refine technical standards and best practices within their domain, promoting broader adoption throughout the organization.
• Identify and lead impactful, cross-departmental data science initiatives, such as enhancing bidding strategies, developing new prediction systems, or overhauling experimentation frameworks.
• Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to advance the data science roadmap for a specific product area or platform capability.
• Work alongside product managers and commercial stakeholders to convert marketplace challenges into data science solutions that yield measurable business results.
• Tackle unique, ambiguous challenges that necessitate innovative methodologies, algorithms, or feature engineering.
• Mentor and support senior data scientists, assisting them in achieving broader technical leadership roles.
• Elevate the skills, impact, and scientific rigor of surrounding teams through guidance, architectural patterns, and strategic direction.
• Articulate technical strategy and cultivate consensus for complex decisions among senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
• Ph.D. in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or a related technical field with 6+ years of pertinent industry experience; OR M.S./B.S. with 8+ years of relevant experience and a proven track record of leading cross-team technical strategies and delivering organization-wide impact.
• In-depth expertise in deep learning and broad knowledge of the modern ML toolkit, with strong proficiency in optimization methods; additional experience in areas like causal inference or experimental design is beneficial.
• Demonstrated ability to architect and deliver complex, production-ready ML systems that function at scale.
• Proven success in nurturing data science/machine learning projects to maturity with substantial business impact, including ongoing support and improvement of those systems post-deployment.
• Mastery of probability and statistics, particularly techniques applicable to large datasets.
• Strong skills in Python and SQL; experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch is essential.
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities, including the capacity to explain intricate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• History of cross-team technical leadership and mentoring of senior data scientists and technical partners.
