Staff Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of significant aspects of backend architecture, including APIs, distributed systems, data models, infrastructure, and core business logic.

• Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools (such as Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, ChatGPT, Devin, or similar) in your daily tasks to enhance development, debugging, testing, documentation, and operational efficiency.

• Discover opportunities to incorporate AI into both internal engineering systems and customer-facing platform functionalities.

• Design, construct, test, deploy, and iterate production systems from start to finish, emphasizing reliability, scalability, and maintainability.

• Create architectures that can accommodate growing scale, complexity, and changing customer workflows.

• Establish and execute modern testing, observability, and operational practices that enhance system resilience and developer productivity.

• Develop scalable abstractions, internal frameworks, and platform capabilities that facilitate quicker product development across teams.

• Lead technical direction and partake in long-term architectural decisions concerning performance, security, scalability, and platform development.

• Mentor engineers throughout the organization, sharing best practices and elevating the technical standards for backend engineering and system design.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in backend or full-stack engineering, preferably in SaaS or high-scale distributed systems environments.

• Demonstrated experience in designing, scaling, and managing complex backend systems from initial growth to maturity.

• Profound expertise in distributed systems, APIs, data modeling, infrastructure, and backend architecture patterns.

• Strong command of modern AI engineering workflows and tools. You actively utilize AI to enhance development speed, problem-solving, system comprehension, and operational efficiency.

• A solid execution mindset with the capability to balance rapid iteration with long-term reliability and maintainability.

• Experience in building secure, observable, fault-tolerant systems within production environments.

• A collaborative and pragmatic approach, effectively working across engineering, product, infrastructure, and data teams.

• Adaptability and sound engineering judgment are more important to us than knowledge of specific frameworks or languages.
