• Assume complete responsibility for backend services and APIs (mainly in Java), covering everything from architectural design and coding to deployment and ongoing maintenance.
• Develop and integrate local payment options, affordability features (such as installments), and promotional campaign logic, customizing our systems to meet varied consumer expectations.
• Evaluate input and health metrics (e.g., checkout conversion funnels, payment success rates) to transform data insights into actionable engineering enhancements that boost GBV.
• Partner with Finance and Product teams to synchronize technical execution with Airbnb’s overarching business strategy, guaranteeing strong business efficiency and ROI on partner campaigns.
• Continuously monitor product/service health, engage in on-call rotations, and proactively identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and enhance system reliability over time.
• Cultivate a collaborative and inclusive engineering culture by sharing knowledge, partaking in code reviews, and occasionally mentoring colleagues.
• 3 to 6 years of professional software engineering experience in major tech firms, with a demonstrated history of full ownership of projects and system architecture.
• Expertise in backend development, primarily in Java (our core technology stack), with the capability to navigate full-stack environments or acquire new programming languages as necessary.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or an equivalent technical qualification.
• Payments Knowledge is a Plus: Familiarity with payment networks, checkout funnels, promotional campaigns, or affordability products (e.g., Buy Now Pay Later, installments) is highly desirable, though a strong eagerness to learn is equally valuable.
• Experience in building and scaling dependable web applications, with an emphasis on optimizing user funnels, conversion rates, and driving growth metrics.
• Strong ability to navigate uncertainty by proactively seeking assistance, distilling complex requirements, and designing scalable solutions.
• Exceptional communication skills—capable of drafting detailed technical design documents and collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical cross-functional partners (e.g., Finance, Product, Marketing).
