Software Engineer, OpenShell

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Collaborate across the entire stack of a distributed systems platform, from designing gRPC contracts to developing secure sandbox runtimes.

• Implement and enhance network security features, which include policy enforcement, L4/L7 proxies, and secure inter-service communication utilizing mTLS.

• Create core platform components such as inference routing, ensuring seamless integration of model provider adapters, credential management, and protocol translation with the sandbox and gateway.

• Construct dependable configuration and control plane systems that address state divergence, implement reconciliation loops, and facilitate safe merging and hot-reloading policies.

• Take ownership of the operability experience by developing efficient CLI tools, managing release automation, and instrumenting all systems for observability through structured logging and distributed tracing.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

• Over 8 years of relevant experience.

• Expertise in systems programming, including the development and debugging of long-running services, async runtimes, and OS-level integration.

• Comprehensive understanding of distributed systems/control planes, including addressing state divergence, constructing reconciliation loops, and designing crash recovery strategies.

• Experience with Container/Sandbox Internals, managing isolated workloads, process lifecycle, capabilities, and network namespaces.

• Knowledge of gRPC and Protobuf, including the creation of machine-to-machine APIs with clear streaming semantics and version safety.

• Experience in operating and extending workloads on Kubernetes, including managing compute drivers, image management, and thorough debugging.

• Capability to secure inter-service communication utilizing mTLS, gateway registration flows, and non-browser identity verification.

• Proficiency in instrumenting systems with structured logging, health checks, and distributed tracing for production observability.
