Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Assists the software engineering team in designing, developing, and testing intricate software systems or applications for enhancements and new products, including cloud-based or internet-related tools.

• Collaborates with the team to support clients' project goals.

• Aids in the product refinement process, which includes ticket creation and development work analysis.

• Adheres to architectural decisions made by the team and comprehends the rationale behind them.

• Participates in brainstorming sessions to suggest innovative ideas and solutions.

• Engages in proof-of-concept implementations and prototypes to gather feedback for informed decision-making.

• Evaluates potential risks that may affect solutions.

• Communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences in written and verbal forms.

• Independently analyzes and troubleshoots complex tickets, identifying dependencies across teams and epics.

• Contributes to the CI/CD process, including Automated Testing and improving testing coverage for their product.

• Recognizes barriers to adoption and release for the product and technology.

• Assists the PM and team in formulating a strategic launch and release plan with cross-functional teams.

• Fosters cross-team collaboration aimed at delivering end-to-end solutions to the market and supporting Go-live activities.

• Evaluates product adoption and seeks ways to enhance the customer journey by implementing solutions for new enhancement requests.

• Actively participates in maintaining system hygiene.

• Prevents future hygiene issues by consistently producing high-quality code.

• Follows coding standards and stays updated with the latest technology trends and best practices.

• Promotes continuous learning and can define a tailored continuous learning path to facilitate career growth.

• Manages complex tickets independently while collaborating with the team to encourage continuous improvement.

• Holds increased expectations for quality in the code review process.

• Utilizes AI tools and techniques to enhance software development activities, including code generation, testing, debugging, and optimization.

• Applies AI insights to detect patterns, automate repetitive tasks, and enhance overall development efficiency and product quality.

• Remains informed about emerging AI trends and best practices to support continuous learning and innovation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, with over 3 years of experience/proficiency, or a combination of education and experience.

• Familiarity with software design principles, development tools, technologies (languages, frameworks, etc.), and relevant domains.

• Proficiency in at least one programming language.

• Experience in web application development.

• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, and testing.

• Ability to work collaboratively with others in a professional and respectful manner.

• Proficient in code versioning tools such as Git.

• Desired: Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, C#, and frameworks like Angular, React, etc.

• Familiarity with cloud technologies such as AWS (specifically Lambda, CloudFormation, API Gateway).

• Experience with Agile/SCRUM and TDD development methodologies.
