This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Plan, coordinate, and execute investigations, which involve identifying and interviewing both police and civilian witnesses to obtain detailed statements.
• Collect, preserve, and analyze evidence in compliance with relevant laws, rules of evidence, and SIU operational policies.
• Engage and collaborate with external experts for forensic examinations and evidence gathering.
• Conduct inspections of collision and arson sites, including vehicles and structures.
• Document scenes through photography, measurements, and thorough observations.
• Analyze vehicle systems, such as crash dynamics, ignition systems, locks, transponders, airbags, seatbelts, and structural components.
• Prepare collision reconstructions, technical diagrams, and illustrations of scenes.
• Manage a comprehensive caseload, ensuring that files are maintained with quality, accuracy, and within set timelines.
• Maintain complete and precise case files, including notes, authorizations, and digital evidence.
• Draft detailed investigative reports, case notes, and disclosure materials for law enforcement.
• Conduct quality control on reports to ensure accuracy, clarity, and appropriate formatting.
• Work in partnership with claims adjusters, examiners, appraisers, and managers to provide updates and recommendations.
• Support legal processes by recommending and attending Examinations Under Oath and assisting legal counsel.
• Monitor file progress, identify cases with “no result,” and recommend next steps before reporting.
• Ensure compliance with budgets, capture all billable work, and complete invoicing in a timely manner.
• Coordinate with administrative staff to guarantee proper file setup and documentation management.
• Receive and manage new assignments from various intake channels.
• Maintain client relationships and provide ongoing communication, insights, and updates.
• Assist with business development and marketing initiatives as needed.
• Mentor and offer guidance, feedback, and support to junior staff members.
• Collaborate with senior management on regional planning, budgeting, and strategic initiatives.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a specialized investigation setting, including law enforcement, corporate investigations, or insurance.
• At least 2 years of direct experience in special investigations.
• A post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field (criminology or equivalent; a background in legal studies and/or psychology is an asset).
• A private investigator's license is required.
• A valid full driving license is necessary.
• Industry-related designations or membership in associations are advantageous.
• A comprehensive understanding of investigative processes, planning, and court preparations; court experience is preferred.
• Goal-oriented, self-motivated, persistent, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships and deliver excellent customer service.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to produce detailed, comprehensive reports.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adept at managing multiple tasks efficiently.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfortable utilizing online research tools.
• Experience in conducting investigations, including mobile and foot surveillance for insurance or corporate cases.
• Knowledge of the Insurance Act, Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule, standardized property policies, claims processes, and relevant documentation (e.g., Non-Waiver Agreements).
• Advanced problem-solving, analytical thinking, and link analysis skills.
• Demonstrates tact, discretion, integrity, and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
