This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Assess grey-box levels and formulate a coherent artistic vision that enhances gameplay, clarity, and the overall visual style.
• Decompose environments into manageable work packages and generate precise estimates for asset creation and implementation.
• Develop detailed asset briefs that encompass references, technical specifications, modular requirements, and quality standards.
• Collaborate closely with production teams to plan, prioritize, and monitor environment deliverables.
• Lead and review the efforts of a distributed team of environment artists, offering clear feedback to ensure uniform quality.
• Supervise the integration of environment assets within Unity, ensuring seamless compatibility with existing systems and workflows.
• Champion optimization throughout the production process, balancing visual fidelity with performance, memory, and production costs.
• Partner with designers, technical artists, and engineers to tackle artistic and technical challenges.
• Identify opportunities to enhance asset reuse, modularity, and efficient production processes.
• Maintain documentation, pipelines, and best practices to ensure consistent delivery across the team.
• Extensive professional experience as a Senior Environment Artist on released console or PC games.
• Strong portfolio showcasing high-quality environment art and a solid understanding of composition, materials, and environmental storytelling.
• Experience in planning and executing large-scale environment production from concept or grey-box to final implementation.
• Proven experience in crafting detailed asset briefs and overseeing outsourced or distributed art production.
• Excellent grasp of modular environment construction and effective asset reuse techniques.
• Proficient working knowledge of Unity and its environment production workflows.
• Strong understanding of optimization methods, including draw calls, batching, LODs, texture budgets, memory management, and performance profiling.
• Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to accurately estimate work and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong communication skills and experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.
• Proactive, self-driven, and comfortable taking ownership of environment delivery.
• Desirable: Experience in sports, racing, or other extensive outdoor environments.
• Desirable: Experience in leading outsourced art production or working within an art outsourcing studio.
• Desirable: Familiarity with procedural environment workflows and world-building tools.
• Desirable: Experience in developing modular kits and scalable environment pipelines.
• Desirable: Understanding of lighting, terrain, vegetation, and material workflows within Unity.
