This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Develop tailored real-time visual effects and integrate them within the engine (UE5, Unity, or proprietary platforms).
• Produce all essential textures and materials; ensure the maintenance of organized, comprehensible graphs and parameterization.
• Employ additional software tools such as Photoshop, Blender, Houdini, or Maya as necessary.
• Comprehend intricate material configurations, blueprints, or scripting hooks; resolve issues and collaborate with Tech Art/Engineering.
• Master optimization principles: budgets, overdraw, particle counts, memory/performance constraints, and console targets.
• Establish quality standards, deliver clear reviews/paintovers, and oversee VFX execution for small teams or strike groups.
• Actively identify potential risks (such as missing hooks, performance spikes, or ambiguous direction), suggest solutions, and escalate matters promptly.
• Work closely with Designers, Concept Artists, and the Art Director; collaborate with Tech Art/Engineering as required.
• Assist in client-facing communication when necessary: clarify requirements, share work-in-progress, and ensure alignment on the “definition of done.”
• Delegate tasks, set immediate priorities, and maintain a well-organized backlog.
• Minimum **8 years of professional experience in the game industry** with at least one released title.
• Proven expertise in end-to-end real-time VFX workflow with in-engine implementation in **Unreal Engine 4 or 5** and Niagara.
• Strong foundational knowledge in particle animation and shape language (clarity, timing, impact).
• Proficient in material and texture creation using Photoshop and/or Substance Designer. **Demonstrated knowledge in optimization (particle counts, overdraw budgets, performance limits).**
• Exceptional communication skills at a leadership level: concise written and verbal updates, actionable feedback, and strong collaboration practices.
• Experience in mentoring or guiding other artists (a formal lead role is not mandatory, but leadership attributes are essential).
• Availability to work during Central (CT) core hours with potential overlap with Pacific (PT) or Eastern (ET) hours.
